Annual Meeting

July 12, 2008

 

The 74th meeting of the QLA was called to order by president, John Colby, at 9:05 AM. There were 66 members present, and we had an introduction of campers.

 

I.                   Reports

A.    Secretary’s report – accepted as read.

B.     Treasurer’s report

C.     Phillipston Officials – Chief Valencourt reviewed some issues. Had one issue on the lake, but with good police response, it was quickly handled. He also mentioned scrap metal is being stolen. And, reminded us about boat registrations and lights needed on kayaks and canoes. Police will do car window etching – can save 15% on F.T.&C.

D.    Water Quality

1.      Do not feed ducks. Do not use fertilizer on lawns, as it washes into the water and promotes weeds.

2.      Board of Health has new testing Co. They test North and South beach once a week. They have extended Valerie’s (health agent) hours, and they are hiring a secretary.

3.      There has been a lot of systems pumped, plus 6 or 7 new systems installed. Board of Health will get Title 5’s done on camps that have changed hands but did not get them then. No action yet on campers who did not respond to the questionnaire.

4.      Voted unanimously to empower our Board of Directors to do water testing around the lake if the beaches are closed.

E.     Boat ramp/gate – Some pressure on gatekeeper to open gate during closed hours – but resisted. Voted unanimously to raise gatekeeper’s pay from $150 to $200.

F.      Dam – Working well. Highway department very cooperative.

G.    Boat Parade – Very successful, 9 boats this year, more decorations. Judges were Bob Clark and Nancy and Jim Deming. 1st prize went to Newcomb camp (08 Olympics – Beijing). 2nd prize to Roberge camp (QL Rocks). 3rd prize to Finkler camp (pirates). Honorable mention to Bailey camp & Lauren Point. Vote of thanks to Clair A. & Jim P for a nice job. Next year boat parade will be July 5th.

H.    Weeds – Treatment of all coves will be done on July 29th. Notices will be sent, posting done, etc. Cost will be about $80 per camp over two years. Will show up on taxes. Treatment will be for bladderwort and artricula; we have no milfoil.

II.                Old Business – none

III.             New Business

A.    Irresponsible boat drivers. Do self-policing. Speak to offenders.

B.     Boats parked at South-end dock. Owner will post dock.

C.     Voted unanimously to donate $50 to church.

D.    Voted unanimously to send Betty Johnson flowers & chocolate as she had bypass surgery.
