Repairs Needed for Queen Lake Dam

The state inspector gave the town a break a the last inspection by given the dam a “Fair” rating. If he had given the dam a “Poor” rating, it would have triggered a mandate for immediate repair from the Office of Dam Safety and a possible fine of $500 a day if we did not take action.
Last year the Selectmen appointed a committee to work on the repair project. Town Meeting voted $130,000 for engineering, design, permitting, etc. The committee is almsot ready to seek construction bids. Estimated cost of the repairs will be $350,00. Research into alternative funding, such as grants, is underway.
The issue will be on the ballot and presented to Town Meeting. There will be a public hearing to review progress and answer questions.
